These Terms & Conditions apply to all bookings made with Næra Westfjords.
By booking with us, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms.
Nature of the journeys
Næra Westfjords designs curated travel experiences in close collaboration with independent local service providers throughout the Westfjords of Iceland.
For the purposes of these Terms and Conditions, “journey” refers to a curated travel experience offered by Næra Westfjords, which may include accommodation, local transport, meals, guided activities, workshops, and other services specified in the journey description.
The services included in our journeys are provided by independent partners. Næra Westfjords acts as the journey designer, coordinator, and booking organiser.
Most of the people contributing to our journeys operate on a micro-scale, often balancing their lifes with diferent occupations, fishing or farming seasons, family responsibilities, and the realities of living in a remote community. For this reason, flexibility, patience, and openness to change are an essential part of travelling in the Westfjords and participating in a Næra Westfjords journey.
The Westfjords are a remote and sparsely populated region where services, infrastructure, and accessibility can be limited and strongly influenced by weather, seasonality, and local conditions.
For these reasons, itineraries, activities, schedules, transport, and other included services may need to be changed, adapted, postponed, or cancelled due to weather, sea conditions, road conditions, safety considerations, operational circumstances, or the availability or unforeseen circumstances of our independent partners. We will always do our best to find suitable alternatives and will let you know about any significant changes as soon as possible. Changes that do not materially affect the overall experience are not eligible for a refund.
By participating in one of our journeys, you acknowledge and accept that travel in the Westfjords may involve remote environments, uneven terrain, rapidly changing weather, limited medical services, and a slower pace of travel than in more urban or conventional destinations.
Our journeys are designed for travelers who appreciate slow local experiences and understand that flexibility is an essential part of traveling in a remote region.
Booking confirmation and payment
A booking is confirmed once we receive the required deposit payment.
Payments are not processed through our website. An email with payment instructions will be sent for both the deposit and the remaining balance. You can pay securely by card via a payment link or by bank transfer. Payment instructions will be sent only from bookings[at]naerawestfjords.is.
The remaining balance must be paid in a single payment no later than the final date for cancellation applicable to your booking. This date will be stated on the relevant journey page and in the email containing your deposit payment link.
If the remaining balance is not received by the due date, we reserve the right to cancel the booking. The deposit will not be refunded.
Cancellation policy
All cancellations must be made and confirmed in writing to bookings[at]naerawestfjords.is.
Cancellation terms vary depending on the complexity of the journey and the accommodation included.
The cancellation policy applicable to your booking will be stated on the relevant journey page and included in the email containing your deposit payment link.
A non-refundable deposit is required to secure every booking.
Næra Westfjords reserves the right to cancel a group journey if the minimum number of participants required has not been reached up to six weeks before the start of the journey. In this case, participants will be provided with a full refund of any payments made to Næra Westfjords. All refund amounts will be issued in Icelandic Krona (ISK).
We strongly recommend that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance to cover cancellation, medical expenses, travel delays, and other unforeseen events that may affect your trip.
By paying the deposit, you confirm that you have read and accepted these Terms & Conditions, including the cancellation policy applicable to your chosen journey.
Liability and Participant Responsibility
Participants are responsible for ensuring that their health and abilities are suitable for the activities included in their journey and for following all instructions, safety briefings, and guidance provided by our local partners.
Activities, accommodation, transport, and any other services included in a journey are delivered by independent providers, each of whom is responsible for the safe operation of their own services.
Some service providers may require participants to sign their own liability waiver or participation agreement before taking part in an activity. Where applicable, participation is subject to the provider's terms and safety requirements.
Participants are responsible for their own safety and personal belongings throughout their journey, including during free time, travel between scheduled activities, meals not included in the itinerary, and any activities arranged independently.
Næra Westfjords is not responsible for delays, itinerary changes, cancellations, injuries, losses, or additional expenses resulting from weather, natural events, road or sea conditions, force majeure, government actions, transportation disruptions, or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where such limitation is prohibited by applicable law.
Participant Conduct and Responsibility
Participants are responsible for complying with applicable laws, regulations, and instructions during the journey.
We reserve the right to end a participant's involvement in a journey where their behaviour seriously affects the safety, wellbeing, or experience of others, or where they fail to follow reasonable instructions.
Community Events
From time to time, Næra Westfjords organizes events, outings, workshops, and trips primarily for local residents through the Community Hub.
Unless otherwise stated, these events are subject to these Terms & Conditions. However, specific events may have additional or different participation requirements, cancellation terms, or payment conditions. Where applicable, these will be communicated as part of the event information or registration process.
Privacy
We process personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. By using our website or booking with Næra Westfjords, you acknowledge that your personal data will be collected and used as described in our Privacy Policy.
Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Iceland.
